Tottenham Hotspur chief Fabio Paratici, after an already eventful transfer window, is seemingly not done there as he enters talks to sign Roma star Nicolo Zaniolo.
The Lowdown: Lilywhites make moves…
Ahead of manager Antonio Conte’s first full season in charge of the Lilywhites, much has been made of how chairman Daniel Levy and the Spurs board could back the Italian.
So far, it’s safe to say they have delivered with an array of astute signings in Ivan Perisic, Fraser Forster, Yves Bissouma, Richarlison, Clement Lenglet and Djed Spence.
The 2022/2023 Premier League season is right around the corner as Spurs also gear up for their first campaign back in the Champions League since 2019/2020.
While reports suggest that Paratici is focusing on outgoings this week, 90min have now come out with a real claim to the contrary.
The Latest: Spurs enter Zaniolo talks…
According to their sources, Spurs and Paratici have entered talks to sign Zaniolo from Roma with negotiations ongoing.
Indeed, they’re discussing a potential deal behind-the-scenes, coming after the Serie A side and Juventus failed to reach an agreement over the 23-year-old’s proposed move to Turin.
The Verdict: Push for move?
One concern for Spurs is Zaniolo’s injury history in recent seasons, but barring that, there is no question he would upgrade Conte’s options in terms of creativity.
Who should Tottenham sign after Spence?
Other (tell us in the comments!)
As per WhoScored, the Italy international stood out as one of Jose Mourinho’s major threats in the forward positions – racking up their third-highest rate of attempts at goal per 90 over 21/22.
Zaniolo also completed the most successful take-ons every game for Roma on average whilst attracting the most fouls, highlighting what a real nightmare he can be to play against (WhoScored).
It’s hardly a surprise former Liverpool midfielder Moussa Sissoko has called the attacker ‘prominent’ and ‘excellent‘ as Spurs now seemingly push for another impressive potential capture.
