Tottenham Hotspur are now chasing Sporting CP starlet Manuel Ugarte as reports out of Portugal share a Lilywhites transfer development.

The Lowdown: Spurs keeping busy...

Following Spurs' busiest summer transfer window in recent memory, it appears there is no rest for sporting director Fabio Paratici as the Italian continues to monitor potential signings.

The north Londoners sealed moves for Ivan Perisic, Fraser Forster, Yves Bissouma, Richarlison, Clement Lenglet, Djed Spence, Destiny Udogie and a permanent deal for Cristian Romero before September 1, yet eyes are seemingly already turning to January.

Antonio Conte's side, alongside Premier League champions Man City, remain unbeaten in the English top flight but there have been question marks over their general performances.

Taking this into account, club hierarchy may be looking back to the market for possible solutions, with news emerging on Uruguay sensation Ugarte.

The Latest: Tottenham make contact to sign Ugarte...

Reports out of Portugal suggest the 21-year-old is attracting serious interest from Spurs and Conte.

Newspaper Record (via Sport Witness) state that Tottenham are one of a few sides who have recently made contact with Sporting over Ugarte.

It's added that Conte has even asked Spurs midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur about his international teammate, but he could face competition for the midfielder's signature.

Indeed, fellow top flight side Leicester City, Paris-Saint Germain and Atletico Madrid are also named as potential suitors.

The Verdict: Diamond in the rough?

As Spurs already know, Ugarte is a player of dazzling potential and has emerged as a real diamond in the rough.

The defensive midfield man shone against Conte's side in the Champions League recently with members of the South American press hinting he could be Uruguay's next superstar.

Uruguayan journalist Rodrigo Romano even stated that Ugarte doesn't appear to have a ceiling, going on to rave over the player's dynamism and 'quality'.

The tenacious youngster also appears to have a playing style suited to the hustle and physicality of English football - as per WhoScored, Ugarte has averaged a fantastic 3.1 tackles per 90 so far this season, more than any Spurs player by comparison.

Going by some impressive numbers and verdicts in the media, Tottenham could be targeting a real gem.
