Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Bryan Gil has been left ‘broken’ after the collapse of his proposed move to Valencia, according to reports.

The Lilywhites managed to complete eight major signings in total, securing moves for Ivan Perisic, Fraser Forster, Yves Bissouma, Richarlison, Clement Lenglet, Djed Spence, Destiny Udogie and a permanent deal for defender Cristian Romero.

Spurs fans, do you remember who scored your first goal of the season against Man City?

However, just as many outgoings were orchestrated by sporting director and transfer chief Fabio Paratici, with Joe Rodon, Steven Bergwijn, Giovani Lo Celso, Tanguy Ndombele, Harry Winks and Sergio Reguilon all moving on either temporarily or on loan.

The Premier League side, gearing up for a congested calendar, were tipped to potentially let Bryan Gil join Valencia but failure to find a replacement seemingly prompted Paratici and co to keep him.

The Latest: Gil ‘broken’ behind-the-scenes…

Following on from the 21-year-old’s collapsed return to La Liga, Super Deporte (via Sport Witness) expand, claiming both chairman Daniel Levy and manager Antonio Conte blocked Gil’s transfer despite having reached an agreement.

El Chiringuito TV (again, via Sport Witness) follow on from this, stating the youngster is ‘broken’ as a result.

The Verdict: Right call?

Conte needs bodies for his midfield as Spurs gear up for a long and intense campaign, so we believe they were right to keep hold of Gil on this basis.

However, in an ideal world, the Spaniard would be getting more game time on a temporary deal at Valencia and furthering his development.

With any luck, Gil gets his fair share of minutes in the English top flight and starts his evolution into a Premier League player.
