Tottenham Hotspur: Fans slam Jan Vertonghen after reports that he won’t be offered a new contract

Tottenham have told Jan Vertonghen that he will not be offered a new contract, according to The Times via @Daily_Hotspur.
Vertonghen is out of contract in June and still hasn’t signed a temporary extension to cover for the rest of the campaign.
Tottenham are waiting to find out if the Belgian will stay until the end of the season as he is weighing up his options. The club have informed the 33-year-old that he will not be given a new long-term deal as they harbour concerns about an ankle injury which may have affected his performances.
Although Vertonghen was a favourite of former boss Mauricio Pochettino, his successor Jose Mourinho has called off talks with the player’s representatives and it appears that his eight-year-spell with the Lilywhites is coming to an end.
Should Jan Vertonghen be allowed to leave?
Yes
No
The Belgium international has attracted attention from Rubi’s Real Betis and Antonio Conte’s Inter Milan, who are keen to sign a player of his calibre in the transfer market. It is fair to say the loyal servant has struggled for consistency this season. Indeed, he was substituted after a disastrous display against Southampton in the FA Cup earlier this year.
Unsurprisingly, loads of Spurs fans slammed Vertonghen on social media, with one fan tweeting “he’s finished” and another feeling that anyone who says otherwise is “clueless” given his performances up until now.

He’s finished anyway, so why should he get one? No sentiment in football. He’s been a great player for us, but his time is up

Yup, he’s given us his best days, time to move him on..

All good stories end in failure. He will always be revered for his service to the club.

No way he hasn’t got a couple more years in him, people are clueless on here
