Writing on social media, Tottenham journalist and reliable football.london correspondent Alasdair Gold has heaped praise on midfielder Giovani Lo Celso following his flashes of brilliance during the club’s narrow 2-1 away win at Lokomotiv Plovdiv in the Europa League.
The Argentine, who’s urgency and creative influence in getting forward is ‘already so evident‘, didn’t exactly make it into the headlines following an eventful evening in Bulgaria.
Who was your Man of the Match against Plovdiv?
Giovani Lo Celso
Tottenham managed to survive what would have been, arguably, the shock of the round after a heroic end to the 90 – with Europa League minnows Plovdiv taking a shock lead fairly late in the game much to the bemusement of manager Jose Mourinho.
The Bulgarians had two men sent off in the space of ten minutes, shortly after scoring an unlikely opening goal in the last quarter of an hour, but Tottenham eventually managed to claw their way back with late drama.
Star striker Harry Kane converted a penalty before controversial club record signing Tanguy Ndombele bundled home an 85th minute winner – prompting Mourinho to sing the Frenchman’s praises afterwards (BBC).
Described as ‘exciting‘ by teammate Harry Winks, the Argentine could still have a huge role to play this season as a creative hub through the middle – and Gold certainly thinks he delivers that punch of urgency and desire that Spurs can sorely lack at times.
