Tottenham Hotspur: Club begin transfer talks with Bournemouth striker Josh King - Tottenham Hotspur Transfer Rumours

According to an exclusive update courtesy of talkSPORT, Tottenham Hotspur talks have ‘begun‘ over the signing of Bournemouth striker Josh King as the club continue their search for a capable back-up forward who can provide competition for Harry Kane.

King, who scored six Premier League goals in 24 starts last campaign (WhoScored), has been linked with a move away from the Vitality Stadium after the Cherries suffered relegation in 2019/2020 – with defender Nathan Ake and goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale having already left the club to stay in the top flight with Man City and Sheffield United respectively.

Now, talkSPORT correspondent Alex Crook claims that King’s agent flew to London last week as Spurs transfer talks to sign the Norwegian begin, and fellow Levy target Callum Wilson is also being touted with a move away from the south coast.

Is Josh King a capable back-up to Harry Kane?

Having stated no clear valuation, Transfermarkt currently estimate his price tag to be somewhere in the region £14.4 million, but it may take an even higher bid if Spurs hope to land the former Man United prodigy.

Ex-manager Eddie Howe’s praise of the attacker should certainly come as a good incentive to invest, with the former Bournemouth boss describing him as the ‘complete package’ to Match of the Day whilst hailing how ‘outstanding’ he is physically, mentally and technically (BBC).

King’s experience on the international stage is also evidence of his quality, having already neared half a century of caps for Norway at just 28-years-old.

question mark

Spurs participated in the Champions League for the first time ever under Harry Redknapp. But who did they play in their first Group Stage fixture of that campaign?

Indeed, notching 46 appearances for Løvene, national team manager Lars Lagerback evidently sees King as a viable asset – potentially supporting the theory he would be a capable Kane alternative.

Having scored 48 Premier League goals since the start of the 15/16 season, Spurs could do far worse in their search for a back-up forward.
