According to an update courtesy of le10sport, Chelsea are in fact ‘open’ to selling striker Olivier Giroud this summer – with AS Roma reportedly interested in a swoop for the ex-Spurs target who could be a viable alternative to star forward Harry Kane.
As reported by football.london correspondent Alasdair Gold, Spurs were weighing up a move for Giroud in January but ultimately never entered negotiations to sign the player – resulting in Chelsea going on tie the Frenchman down with an extension.
If Spurs had opted to bid for the 98-cap France international, they would have arguably been in a better position to pull off a bargain deal, especially if he only had mere months remaining on his contract.
Should Spurs try and sign Giroud from Chelsea?
Yes, get a deal done Levy
However, with Tottenham officially on the prowl for a back-up alternative to Kane, they may have been handed another chance to go for Giroud following this latest news coming from le10sport.
Indeed, the French news outlet claim Frank Lampard’s side are in fact still ‘open’ to offers for Giroud, and his goal return in the top flight, along with a meagre potential £6.3 million valuation, could mark him out as a key candidate for Spurs’ bereft forward line.
As it stands, Jose Mourinho only has one world class striking option in Kane, and Giroud’s proficiency in finding the net over his Premier League stay may well support the theory he is a bargain acquisition waiting to happen.
