Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly close to the signing of Matt Doherty, but it looks like Jose Mourinho still wants to strengthen his defence if the latest transfer update is anything to go by.
According to Marca, Spurs are now showing serious interest in signing Real Madrid left-back Sergio Reguilón with Mourinho keen to add another left-back to his squad.
At the moment no offer has been made but it looks like something could happen between Madrid and Spurs in this transfer window.
The 23 year-old was on loan at Sevilla last season and he impressed massively in the 38 appearances he made in all competitions as he scored three goals and assisted five, per Transfermarkt, whilst also managing on average 1.8 tackles, 1.2 interceptions and 1.4 clearances per game in all competitions, via WhoScored.
Currently at left-back, Spurs have Danny Rose, who was on loan at Newcastle United last season, and Ben Davies. If you compare these two to the Spaniard, the £22.5m-valued man seems like the better option as he is much younger and also brings a winning mentality as he won the Europa League with Sevilla last season. He also manages more tackles on average per game than the two Spurs players.
This signing would be a really good statement of intent, and would show that the North London side want to sign players who are good enough to succeed at this level, but also at an age where they can be in the starting eleven for many seasons and this seems like a very good way to be building the squad.
