Tottenham Hotspur: Club won’t be able to sign Nicolò Zaniolo - Tottenham Hotspur Transfer Rumours

Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with Serie A midfielder Nicolo Zaniolo, and there has been an update on the possible transfer, but it is not a positive one for supporters of the North London side.

According to Sky Sports Italy, Zaniolo’s agent met with representatives of Spurs due to the fact they wanted to open negotiations with AS Roma over a possible move to the Premier League.

However, the Italian club swiftly blocked the attempt with it being said they wish to keep the player, along with Lorenzo Pellegrini, at all costs.

The £40.5 million valued midfielder has played 69 times for Roma, scoring 14 goals as well as picking up six assists, per Transfermarkt, and last season was his best at the club as he managed eight goals and three assists in all competitions.

Who did Villas-Boas replace as Spurs manager in 2012?

His in-game stats show his attacking intent as he managed on average 1.8 shots and 2.2 successful dribbles in the Serie A, and at only the age of 21, he is showing signs that he could potentially be a world class player in the future.

Therefore Spurs will understandably be a bit gutted that they have been blocked from signing a really good midfielder. But Jose Mourinho has an abundance of quality in the middle of the pitch, with attacking players like Dele Alli, Giovani Lo Celso and Tanguy Ndombele all capable when going forward.

This is highlighted by their WhoScored stats, and therefore it is not the end of the world that the club have been blocked from signing Zaniolo as they have good quality there already and they can use their money elsewhere.
