According to a transfer update from the Athletic journalist Charlie Eccleshare, Spurs remain ‘confident’ over signing a new striker this summer despite there being no new deals completed yet – with the claim potentially being enough to spark some excitement around Tottenham’s end to the window.
As revealed in the press over this last month, a new forward remains one of Daniel Levy’s top priorities as the new 2020/2021 Premier League season commences this weekend.
Last year, Spurs suffered in this regard after releasing the out-of-contract Fernando Llorente, with star striker Harry Kane going on to pick up a hamstring strain without any suitable replacement mid-way through the season.
Will Spurs sign a striker by the end of this window?
Yes, have faith
Manager Jose Mourinho, as a result, could now wish to add a new striker to his roster in order to strengthen Spurs’ options – with journalist Eccleshare now revealing that the club are ‘confident‘ over getting a deal done.
Who could Spurs go for?
As explained by reliable football.london correspondent Alasdair Gold, Spurs have their eye on a number of targets, including the likes of Habib Diallo, Arkadiusz Milik and the exciting Patson Daka.
The latter man in particular is a real stand-out candidate, having notched a head-turning 24 goals and eight assists in the Austrian Bundesliga over 2019/2020 for Red Bull Salzburg (Transfermarkt).
Valued at around £20 million, Daka could also be viewed as a real bargain buy, potentially more so than previous summer targets.
Both Callum Wilson and Ollie Watkins were apparently well out of Spurs’ price range, but Daka could be worth every penny of his tag considering the massive goal return last season.
