Speaking to Football Insider, in reaction to emerging news that Tottenham could go for RB Leipzig star Marcel Sabitzer as their top target, pundit Michael Brown has tipped Daniel Levy and the club to potentially swap surplus-to-requirement figures with ‘new signings’ in an effort to transform Spurs into a ‘Championship-winning side’.
Sabitzer, who has recently been touted by the media as a possibility for Spurs this January, would cost the club a pretty penny – but reports have come out that the player is also interested in a move to the Lilywhites.
Levy tipped for January mission
Jose Mourinho, speaking candidly over potential January deals, claimed he would be ‘surprised’ if the club managed to pull anything off, but Brown has insisted Levy could swap a few players with new incomings.
Speaking to Football Insider, the former Premier League midfielder admitted that while their strength in depth is ‘incredible’, Tottenham still have work to do this month in terms of transforming into a truly elite side.
When asked about Sabitzer and the recent links, Brown explained:
“Which manager wouldn’t take another attacking player like him?”
“As a squad, they look healthy, they look good, they’ve got balance.
“You look at the bench, nine subs and Dele Alli didn’t even make it, which was just incredible. So they do have some serious talent.
“But you do think Spurs could improve in terms of individuals.
“Maybe they could swap a few players with new signings to get to the level of a Championship winning side.”
Transfer Tavern take
Whether or not Spurs to land Sabitzer or a player of that calibre remains to be seen, but after last summer’s window, you certainly wouldn’t rule it out.
