Danny Rose’s proposed move from Tottenham Hotspur to Genoa has collapsed, that is according to a report from Football Insider.
The England international is now surplus to requirements at Spurs having lost his place in the starting 11 to Ben Davies, whilst another left-back in Sergio Reguilon has now arrived in north London too.
As a result he has been told he is free to leave and earlier in September it was reported that he had held talks with the Serie A outfit with regards to a potential move to Italy, whilst also having had discussions with their league rivals Cagliari (Sky Sports).
However, Football Insider are suggesting that the potential transfer is now off as Genoa have “gone cold” on the deal.
It is therefore back to the drawing board for Rose, who has been left in out in the cold at Spurs recently. Indeed, the 29-year-old confronted manager Jose Mourinho about the way he was being treated midway through the 2019/20 campaign, a discussion which was caught on camera for the Amazon documentary ‘All or Nothing: Tottenham Hotspur’.
After that he has was shipped out on loan to Newcastle United for the remainder of the season and upon his return he has not even been given a squad number. It is believed that Tottenham are willing to loan him out for the final year of his contract, before allowing him to walk away for free next summer.
Rose has been at Spurs for over 13 years having arrived from Leeds for £900,000 in July 2007 and he was a regular under previous manager Mauricio Pochettino. Indeed he played 150 times for the Argentine boss, who once described the £14.4m-valued Englishman as “fantastic” following a performance against Borussia Dortmund in 2017.
With a move to Genoa now looking unlikely and having fallen down the pecking order under Pochettino’s successor, Rose must find an alternate destination before the transfer deadline on October 5 or risk being left in the wilderness until January.
