As per Calciomercato, there has been yet another update as Tottenham Hotspur remain in the race to sign Fiorentina sensation Dusan Vlahovic.
The Lowdown: Spurs well in contention…
Over this past week, there has been absolutely no shortage of updates concerning the Serbia international as both Spurs and managing director Fabio Paratici remain heavily linked with a swoop.
Should Vlahovic be a priority for Spurs?
100 per cent, need a back up striker
No, bring in Kessie!
Following on from their well known summer interest, the arrival of star-studded new boss Antonio Conte has only heightened reports of a possible bid to sign Vlahovic.
It is believed that both Spurs and Conte are serious about signing the 21-year-old with Alfredo Pedulla recently claiming that he has already spoken to Paratici about landing him.
TUTTOmercatoWEB back this news with the Italian outlet stating that Vlahovic is a name on both Conte and Paratici’s agreed list of names to target.
La Gazzetta dello Sport (via Sport Witness), going one step further, even say that Spurs have already met with Fiorentina officials in London and a possible €70m (£59.9m) deal has been discussed.
The Latest: Spurs ‘much richer’ side in Vlahovic race…
In yet another update, Calciomercato believe that the Lilywhites are a real threat to Juventus’ chances of landing the in-form striker for one main reason.
As per their information, both Spurs and Ligue 1 giants Paris-Saint Germain are in the race to sign Vlahovic along with Juve but also hold an advantage in being ‘much richer’ than the Old Lady.
This complicates matters for Juve as they draw up a long list of ‘plan B’ options in case they can’t sign Fiorentina’s star man and Tottenham’s presence proves too big of an obstacle.
The Verdict: Boost for Spurs?
Competition to sign one of Europe’s most exciting young talents will be vast so news of Tottenham’s financial advantage over a club as big as Juve will come as a big boost.
La Viola president Rocco Commisso recently confirmed that Vlahovic has rejected new contract offers to make him one of the highest-paid players in the club’s history, perhaps indicating the player has his eyes on a move away.
This may well bolster Tottenham’s chances and strengthen their stance in potential January talks, but the only remaining obstacle appears to be other interested clubs like PSG, Juve and other European heavyweights.
One possible drop out of the race will only boost Spurs further in their pursuit of the striker who scored an impressive 21 Serie A goals last season.
He has only built upon that fine form over 2021/2022 so far, bagging 10 goals and an assist in all competitions already after just 13 appearances (Transfermarkt).
It’s little wonder Serie A experts like Conor Clancy have lauded him as a ‘really exciting’ player and we believe he should be one of the main transfer priorities for Conte at N17.
