According to a report by Italian newspaper La Repubblica, as relayed by TUTTOmercatoWEB, Tottenham Hotspur and Fabio Paratici have 'overtaken all' competitors in the race to sign Sampdoria gem Mikkel Damsgaard.

The Lowdown: Paratici chasing Damsgaard?

Tottenham have been heavily linked with a swoop for the Danish sensation ever since new managing director Fabio Paratici was appointed by the north Londoners.

Talk of an 'assault' on Sampdoria to sign Damsgaard emerged as far back as early last month, but president of the Serie A club, Massimo Ferrero, recently explained it would take an offer of around '€40/45 million (£34.2m/£38.5m)' to get them thinking.

The Latest: Tottenham in pole position...

As per La Repubblica (via TMW), Spurs have 'overtaken all' competitors in the race to sign Damsgaard this summer in what is a rather promising claim to emerge from Italy.

Despite Ferrero's admission on what it would take to land the 21-year-old, Spurs' managing director Paratici is said to be readying a €25m (£21.4m) bid for his services this summer.

Damsgaard was apparently followed 'in the days of Mourinho' but has now returned to the 'top' of Tottenham's transfer list since Paratici's arrival at N17.

The Verdict: Get it done...

Lauded as a 'magical' and 'dynamic' player by respected TV 2 SPORT football expert and commentator Martin Mikkelsen, the attacking midfielder has marked himself out as one of the most exciting prospects in world football.

He also enjoyed a fantastic Euro 2020 campaign with the Denmark national team, scoring two goals and assisting one for his teammates over five tournament appearances (uefa.com).

His highlight was a stunning free-kick against England to open the scoring at Wembley in the semi-finals.

If he can repeat those heroics at club level, Tottenham would have quite the gem on their hands.
