Taking to Twitter, reliable transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano has shared some transfer news out of Tottenham Hotspur involving Manchester United forward Anthony Martial.

The Lowdown: Spurs eyeing new forwards...

According to reports, the signing of a new forward is one of manager Antonio Conte's top four priorities before the closure of this year's January transfer window.

Journalist Jack Pitt-Brooke of The Athletic backs that Spurs and transfer chief Fabio Paratici will try and bolster the attacking areas for Conte this month with a fair few names already linked.

The likes of Dejan Kulusevski and Jesse Lingard are just some attacking players who have been frequently mentioned alongside Spurs with Romano now sharing news on a fresh name in Martial.

The Latest: Spurs make contact...

As per Romano, taking to Twitter, Spurs have made contact to sign the Frenchman on loan alongside fellow Premier League side Newcastle United.

However, it is believed that both clubs were 'turned down' in their moves with Martial 'not interested' in a temporary transfer within England.

European powerhouses Barcelona, Sevilla and Juventus are instead the three most likely options for United's want-away ace as the Red Devils demand his full salary be covered on top of a loan fee.

The Verdict: Blow for Spurs?

There is little arguing Martial possesses real quality when on form and playing at his best, with former Premier League star Robin van Persie calling him 'world class'.

Owen Hargreaves is another former United man who has raved about the 26-year-old's ability, labelling Martial a 'Ferrari', and it is clear to see why going by his numbers.

When given regular chances at Old Trafford last season, Martial averaged a consistent 2 shots at goal per 90 and 1.6 completed dribbles every Premier League game (WhoScored).

In terms of attempts on goal, only Harry Kane and Son Heung-min have averaged higher numbers over 2021/2022 when compared to the Frenchman last campaign.

Meanwhile, only Lucas Moura (2.5) has bettered Martial's 2020/2021 record of successful take-ons - with these numbers highlighting just why Spurs made an approach.

It is certainly possible that the player could have reinvigorated his season at Spurs under Conte, but due to his stance, Lilywhites supporters seemingly won't find out.
