Tottenham Hotspur: Fans flock to transfer update on Steven Bergwijn

Tottenham Hotspur: Fans flock to transfer update on Steven Bergwijn -Premier League

Tottenham Hotspur reportedly aren’t willing to sell Steven Bergwijn cheaply this summer, amid interest from Dutch giants Ajax.

Bergwijn signed for Spurs back in 2020, and has gone on to make 51 appearances in total for the Premier League side, although he has found regular minutes hard to come at times.

That has seen Ajax register their interest in landing his signature this summer, although it remains to be seen as to whether any formal bid has been made at this stage.

It is claimed that Nuno Espírito Santo has enjoyed working with Bergwijn during training, since being appointed as the club’s new manager earlier this summer.

Speaking on his arrival at Spurs (Football Centre on Sky Sports, 28th January 2020, 11:40am), former Tottenham forward Darren Bent was impressed with Bergwijn, and labelled him as ‘quick and powerful’.

“So, you kind of have three false number 9’s [Bergwijn, Son and Moura]. We have seen Son play up there and we have seen Moura play up there. And he can play up there too.

“They all add something different. Son scores goal. Lucas Moura, he gets his fair share of goals. With the new guy coming in, he can play number 10, left and right. He’s quick and powerful and I really like him.”

Spurs finished seventh in the Premier League table last term, and it seems they want Bergwijn to be a part of their quest to improve in the 2021/22 campaign.

Plenty of Tottenham Hotspur supporters took to social media to react to this emerging update on Spurs’ stance on the forward’s future.

Take a look at the best of the reaction from Twitter below….

Spurs fans divided

“Good. Let’s keep him and give him the chance he deserves. No need to sell so early into his career.”

“If a massively talented Stevie goes and the likes of Dier, Winks, Dele, Aurier and Sanchez stay. We riot.”

“Every time I watch him he just looks worse and worse I can’t remember the last time he cut inside and unleashed a shot or beat a man 1v1 he seems so limited much rather give minutes to Dane.”

“Good, not for sale; lets sale dead weight and invest wisely.”

“Let him go. Absolutely useless. Mou gave him all the chances he needed. That goal against City deceived us for a long time. I would prefer Lamela to stay than him.”

“Not convinced at all by him, worth another season to see if his game improves.”
