Speaking to Football Insider, talkSPORT pundit Gabriel Agbonlahor has been left in awe of the 'brilliant' move from Tottenham Hotspur to sign Emerson Royal in the summer window.

The Lowdown: Paratici ends Spurs right-back hunt...

Tottenham had been linked with the signing of a new right-back throughout the summer transfer window, especially after ex-defender Serge Aurier made known his desire to leave N17.

The likes of Max Aarons, Tariq Lamptey and Takehiro Tomiyasu were linked to Spurs but the Lilywhites and managing director Fabio Paratici eventually signed Emerson from Barcelona at the very last stage.

The Brazilian, likened to legendary figures like Maicon and Dani Alves, joins Nuno Espirito Santo's side with a bit of a reputation.

The Latest: Agbonlahor lauds 'brilliant' move...

Speaking to FI, former Aston Villa forward Agbonlahor believes it is a 'brilliant late move' by Spurs to sign the 22-year-old.

Indeed, he explains that Emerson's capture 'makes sense' for Nuno Espirito Santo and now Tottenham have two solid right-backs.

"I reckon he’s looked at it and thought ‘I want two solid right-backs, Tanganga and the new guy," said Agbonlahor.

“Doherty hasn’t played much. He let him go when he was at Wolves. That shows he probably wasn’t keen on his defending. Aurier was not wanted.

“It makes sense. It’s a big position they need to fill, and Emerson is a brilliant late move. Look at Arsenal, they need to fill that position.”

The Verdict: Bang on the money...

Taking advantage of Barcelona's dire financial situation and snapping up Emerson is certainly a stroke of genius by Paratici.

Still very young and with plenty of sell-on value as a result, the South American starlet proved himself a tricky, attack-minded full-back time and time again in La Liga over 2020/2021.

Making 34 starts for ex-club Real Betis, the speedster attracted more fouls per 90 (2.1) in that time than any Spurs player managed in the Premier League whilst also notching four assists from out wide (WhoScored).

We believe he will come as a great capture for Tottenham.
