Speaking to FootballFanCast, former Tottenham Hotspur defender Graham Roberts has just dropped a big transfer claim involving Bologna defender Takehiro Tomiyasu.

The Lowdown: Spurs in Tomiyasu talks...

As per the Athletic, Tottenham are closing in on a deal for Tomiyasu deal with both the Lilywhites and Bologna said to be finalising the terms.

Spurs have been in talks to sign the Japan international for a while, lodging a £12.9m (€15m) bid, plus an extra £2.6m (€3m) in add-ons, which was swiftly rejected (Sky Sports).

The Latest: Roberts drops big Spurs claim...

Speaking to FFC, Spurs favourite Roberts has now made his own big claim as he shares what he's heard 'through the grapevine' at Tottenham.

Indeed, the former Lilywhites man has heard that Tomiyasu has in fact agreed personal terms with Spurs.

"I’ve been told through the grapevine that he’s agreed terms with Tottenham, and it’s just the fee now," he explained.

"But that could take up to the end of August the way we deal with things. But that could be one of the centre-halves in.”

The Verdict: Tomiyasu edging closer?

All the signs point towards Tomiyasu possibly becoming Spurs' first major signing of the summer in what is potentially good news for Nuno Espirito Santo.

Tottenham are reportedly aiming to oversee a major defensive revamp which may see two new centre-backs come in, with Spurs also aiming to shift surplus-to-requirements players.

The 22-year-old, who started 31 Serie A games last season, could prove a viable asset given he can play both at right-back and in the centre - killing two birds with one stone.

Serge Aurier may well be one of the names leaving Tottenham this summer and Tomiyasu could come as suitable additional depth in that spot.
