Speaking to ITV News, ex-Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp has urged his former club to re-sign Real Madrid star and Ballon d’Or winner Luka Modric after completing a sensational swoop for Gareth Bale – going on to say that Daniel Levy can ‘do a lot worse’.
Modric, who broke Spurs hearts when he parted company for the Galacticos alongside Bale, has gone on to have a wonderful career in La Liga and on the world stage – winning the coveted Ballon d’Or prize in 2018 and picking up four Champions League titles.
Should Spurs re-sign Modric along with Bale?
Yes, we'd be in dreamland
No, one superstar return for now
Now, Redknapp believes that Levy should take him off Madrid’s hands along with his star-studded teammate.
Claiming the club should go through with a ‘double deal’, despite the 35-year-old’s £180,000-per-week wages, Modric would arguably be a more-than suitable heir to ex-creative midfield player Christian Eriksen.
Tottenham sold the Dane to Inter Milan in January, failing to find a replacement since then, but reliable football.london correspondent Alasdair Gold recently claimed that the club are not looking for an attacking midfield player.
Regardless, at least hypothetically speaking, Modric’s return would certainly turn a similar amount of heads – evident by his praise from Spurs icons in the past.
Hero and soon-to-be Tottenham ace Bale lauded the Croatian as ‘unbelievable‘ during their time together at the Bernabeu, meanwhile Redknapp has heaped praise on the ‘special‘ star whilst he was manager at White Hart Lane.
While this transfer seems unlikely, there is reason to believe many Spurs fans would never have expected a Bale announcement this summer either.
