According to a report by Spanish outlet Todofichajes, Jose Mourinho is ‘at the controls’ and is demanding that Spurs make a move for Juventus star Paulo Dybala – coming 12 months after the Argentine nearly completed a ‘sensational’ move to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Mourinho, as per this report, is instigating a potential deal and is leading the race for his signature alongside fellow frontrunners Paris-Saint Germain – and Dybala could be seen as the creative midfield heir to Christian Eriksen.
Mourinho eyeing Dybala coup
After Spurs suffered a ‘huge loss‘ with the Dane’s departure, they haven’t yet found a consistent creative replacement in midfield – even despite the fact that both Giovani Lo Celso and Tanguy Ndombele have thrived just behind the front three recently.
Now Mourinho is apparently in full control as Spurs attempt to sign the £91,000-per-week ace again, with both the Lilywhites and PSG apparently being the only teams willing to launch an audacious bid.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Tottenham were close to landing the Argentine last summer, but he refused the move on account of him wanting to stay in Turin and prove himself invaluable to Juventus’ plans.
Safe to say, after a wonderful 2019/2020 season in Serie A, he did that – but that hasn’t stopped Mourinho from still wanting to sign the 27-year-old ‘genius‘ regardless of his alleged previous snub.
Transfer Tavern take
While getting Dybala would be a noteworthy coup for Spurs, given the current harmony of this Lilywhites squad, it could be deemed a luxury acquisition and not exactly a necessary purchase.
Both Ndombele and Lo Celso have been stamping their mark on the attacking midfield places, and it could be deemed a gamble to throw another player into the mix as Spurs challenge for the Premier League title.
