Tottenham Hotspur: Jose Mourinho key to Gareth Bale deal, says Danny Mills - Tottenham Hotspur Transfer Rumours

Speaking to Football Insider, ex-England international Danny Mills has heaped a huge amount of credit on Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho for his influence on one of the deals of this summer window – as the club secured a reunion with icon Gareth Bale on a season-long loan from Real Madrid.

Bale, who was at the centre of controversy during his unrest in the Spanish capital, resulting in his infamous ‘Wales, Golf, Madrid’ stunt, has now managed to find a temporary route out of the Bernabeu and back to a club where he is a fans favourite.

Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane, whilst very publicly falling out with the player, may not have had the fondest farewells for Bale but did manage to praise his ‘spectacular‘ impact in a press conference.

The loan signing, which has excited many Tottenham supporters, comes alongside a permanent deal for defensive sensation Sergio Reguilon – with the club and chairman Daniel Levy spending a grand total of £42.5 million to bring the pair in from Real Madrid (BBC and Evening Standard).

While Levy must be given plenty of credit in making the sensational double swoop a reality, especially considering the unexpected nature of this business following Spurs’ recent financial troubles, pundit Mills has also credited Mourinho with a huge amount of potential influence.

The former Premier League defender, speaking to Football Insider, has claimed that Bale ‘wants to play for Mourinho’ as much as critics and fans alike love to ‘chastise‘ Tottenham’s head coach.

“We’ve seen him play for Wales, and people say he hasn’t played for Real Madrid for a while and no he hasn’t,” explained Mills.

“But once you get him fit, and he will get fit because he wants to be there and clearly he wants to play, and he’s helped make this deal happen, no matter what anybody says.

“He wanted to go back to Tottenham and he wants to play for Jose Mourinho. As much as people chastise Mourinho and give him grief, Gareth Bale wants to go and play for him.

“That says a lot in itself, he doesn’t want to play for Zidane but he wants to play for Mourinho.”
