As per journalist Simon Jones of The Daily Mail, a promising Tottenham Hotspur transfer update has come to light involving Villarreal star Pau Torres.

The Lowdown: Spurs make 2021 move...

The central defender is no stranger to Lilywhites supporters as transfer chief Fabio Paratici attempted to bring him to the Premier League last year.

However, as Torres personally revealed, Tottenham's offer to join was turned down in favour of Champions League football as the Yellow Submarine went on to reach the semi-finals of Europe's most coveted competition.

Spurs have since been linked with another swoop as they aim to back manager Antonio Conte and show the Italian they mean business for 2022/2023.

The Latest: Tottenham 'given encouragement' for Torres...

According to Mail reporter Jones, the north-Londoners are now 'given encouragement' they 'could strike a deal' for Torres this summer.

This is due to the Spain international now being 'ready to leave' and 'make a move' to test himself and further his career.

Paratici and co apparently 'believe they can give him the ideal next step' provided they can match Villarreal's price tag.

It is also believed that the English football giants watched Torres against Liverpool on Tuesday night as they firmly keep watch on his situation.

The Verdict: Get it done...

A central defender is apparently high on Conte's transfer wish list this summer and Torres arguably comes as one of their most elite targets.

According to WhoScored, the 25-year-old has played more La Liga minutes than anyone in Unai Emery's squad, including goalkeeper Geronimo Rulli.

In that time, the Villarreal mainstay has won more aerial duels than all of his teammates whilst completing the second-most clearances per 90 behind Raul Albiol.

Taking this into account, it's little wonder journalist Dean Jones believes he would be a 'perfect' signing for Spurs and we believe he stands out as a real must-have - depending on if Tottenham are willing to pay his £55 million release clause.
