According to a report by Corriere di Bologna, via Sport Witness, Tottenham Hotspur are set to make an improved offer for Fabio Paratici target Takehiro Tomiyasu next week, with the player open to joining Spurs.

The Lowdown: Spurs eyeing Tomiyasu...

As backed by reliable outlets like Sky Sports, Tottenham are currently trying to get a deal done to sign the Japan international. Indeed, the Lilywhites are still in talks for Tomiyasu after his solid 2020/2021 campaign for Bologna and the player could come as Spurs' first defensive reinforcement this summer.

The 22-year-old can play as both a right-back and central defender, with his versatility proving potentially valuable to new manager Nuno Espirito Santo.

The Latest: Spurs set for new offer next week...

As per regional Italian news outlet Corriere di Bologna (via Sport Witness), Tottenham will come back with a new and improved offer next week after their initial bid was rejected.

Tottenham originally lodged an €18m (£15.4m) proposal but the Serie A club will demand more if they are to sell one of their prized assets.

Alas, Paratici continues to press for the defender according to this report and has a 'clear advantage' over the competition for his signature, mainly due to Tomiyasu's willingness to join Spurs.

He has apparently said 'OK' to Tottenham despite Atalanta and other English clubs circling, with chairman Daniel Levy set to 'raise the bar' with an improved offer next week.

The Verdict: Bargain...

Despite his young age, Tomiyasu was a mainstay and a crucial presence for Bologna last season, averaging the joint-most clearances per game (3.3) out of their entire squad (WhoScored).

Team-mate Mitchell Dijks also raved over his capability, dubbing him 'very strong' and a 'warrior' when speaking to the Italian press (Tuttosport), and that's exactly what Spurs need at the back.

It is reported by Sky Sports that Spurs are not far away from his valuation, with the 6 foot 2 colossus perhaps being allowed to leave for just £17.2m.

For such a modest price, we urge Tottenham to get this one over the line.
