According to Sport, as relayed by Sport Witness, a big update has emerged on the future of Real Madrid forward Marco Asensio after a very important offer to join Tottenham Hotspur in the summer.

The Lowdown: Asensio receives Spurs chance...

As reported by newspaper El Larguero (via Sport Witness), Tottenham managing director Fabio Paratici attempted to sign Asensio over the summer.

Indeed, he apparently lodged a 'very important offer' to bring the 25-year-old to north London which was ultimately turned down in favour of fighting for a place under Carlo Ancelotti.

However, as an update from Spain emerges, maybe Spurs could be handed another shot in January.

The Latest: Asensio threatens Real exit...

As per this Sport update (via SW), which mentions Tottenham by name, Asensio is unhappy with his current role at Real and being left on their bench for a recent clash with Valencia has only made matters worse.

Following his exclusion from Ancelotti's starting eleven, the Spaniard is now at the centre of a 'threat' to leave the Bernabeu and Madrid could 'open the door' to an exit if he doesn't work his way into the team.

If it reaches that point, The Galacticos will consider letting him go if a good offer comes in.

The Verdict: Get it done?

As always, Tottenham's motives for a return swoop may ultimately depend on Real's valuation but it's safe to say he comes with his perks.

The 26-cap gem, once likened to Lionel Messi by Zinedine Zidane for his left foot (COPE via Dream Team), still has plenty of years left and valued at relatively affordable £31.5 million by Transfermarkt.

Perhaps the best route could be a January loan with the option to buy, particularly as his wages are around £125,000-per-week.
