Tottenham Hotspur: Mauro Icardi transfer claim emerges

Tottenham Hotspur: Mauro Icardi transfer claim emerges -Tottenham Hotspur Transfer Rumours

As per La Gazzetta dello Sport, an update has emerged on the future of Paris-Saint Germain striker Mauro Icardi and it involves Tottenham Hotspur.

The Lowdown: Spurs bid for Icardi…

This certainly isn’t the first time Tottenham have been linked to the Argentine as managing director Fabio Paratici reignites interest.

Who should Spurs sign next?

Indeed, back in 2016, Italian news outlet Corriere dello Sport (via Sports Mole) lifted the lid on a £38 million bid from the Lilywhites to try and sign him from former club Inter Milan.

However, the Nerazzurri reportedly rebuffed chairman Daniel Levy’s past advances and were thought to be holding out for a fee higher than £40m at the time.

The Latest: Paratici eyeing return…

As per La Gazzetta, as also relayed by Sport Witness, Icardi has admirers in England ‘starting with Fabio Paratici at Tottenham’.

Indeed, the 28-year-old is apparently being eyed by Spurs amid his current situation under Mauricio Pochettino at Paris-Saint Germain.

The report doesn’t provide much in the way of Paratici’s next steps in the race for Icardi, with Juventus and AC Milan also linked, but Tottenham have been namedropped as real suitors with the striker ‘ready to ignite the transfer market’.

The Verdict: Get it done?

Signing a striker is arguably imperative for Spurs given the lack of options to rotate with star man Harry Kane.

Lauded as a ‘world class’ by colossal Italy international Giorgio Chiellini (via PSG Talk), the £168,000-per-week forward is prolific in finding the net.

Over his top flight and European appearances to date, Icardi has netted a career total of 155 goals since his Sampdoria debut in 2012/2013.

We believe he could certainly be a fine acquisition for Spurs if Paratici can get it done.
