The Lowdown: Lilywhites reach Kounde ‘agreement’…
However, before the move can potentially be completed, the player must first agree to a north London move – with the 22-year-old thinking about it as per this claim.
Since then, some separate reports have suggested he has denied the move, but we await further concrete updates.
The Latest: Robinson hails Kounde development…
Reacting to this Di Marzio development involving Kounde, who has been linked to Tottenham over the past fortnight, Robinson has hailed the player and managing director Fabio Paratici for a possible ‘stroke of genius’.
“That would be a stroke of genius from Paratici if Kounde comes in and Sanchez is used as a makeweight in the deal,” explained the Sky pundit to Football Insider.
“If they can make a cash-plus-player deal work then it would be ideal.
“Kounde could be the world-class centre-half that Spurs are so desperately in need of. He is definitely an upgrade on what they have currently got.”
The Verdict: Paratici masterclass?
We agree that this transfer would be a Paratici masterstroke to say the very least.
Kounde is arguably one of the most exciting young defenders in world football – and swapping Sanchez to reduce the fee to a meagre £25.6m is certainly a brilliant piece of business.
If Tottenham could potentially pull this off, they would be shifting deadwood and seriously reinforcing their defence in one quick swoop.
Ideally, the Lilywhites would like to bring in two new centre-backs this summer as Daniel Levy and co eye a major summer revamp.
Indeed, a Kounde swap deal would be the ideal way to fulfil one of Spurs’ main transfer goals for this window, and supporters will be hoping that he may consider the move despite some claims to the contrary.
