Tottenham Hotspur: Pervis Estupinan to Villarreal deal agreed as Spurs miss out

As confirmed by Sky Sports journalist and reliable transfer guru Fabrizio Romano on September 13, Villarreal have reached an agreement to sign left-back Pervis Estupinan from Watford for £13.8 million plus add-ons – with the ‘done deal‘ now ruling out a potential linked option for Spurs.
Last month, the Daily Express claimed chairman Daniel Levy and Tottenham were looking at Estupinan as a back-up alternative to Wales international Ben Davies – especially considering the Ecuadorian is debatably one of the most promising full-backs in Europe right now.
Watford have reached an agreement to sell Pelvis Estupinan to Villarreal as Alberto Moreno replacement. €15m + add ons, done deal.
Olympique Marseille have asked for Luis Suarez [the Watford one! 🇨🇴] but nothing has been agreed yet and the club will try to keep him 🛑 #transfers— Fabrizio Romano (@FabrizioRomano) September 13, 2020
Despite never making a first team appearance for Watford, the 22-year-old enjoyed a fruitful loan spell on loan at Osasuna last campaign and established himself as one to watch out for over the coming seasons.
Which left-back should Spurs sign in place of Estupinan?
Sergio Reguilon

Max Aarons

Nicolas Tagliafico

Starting 32 La Liga matches for the club over 2019/2020, in that time, he averaged an impressive 2.3 tackles and 1.6 interceptions per 90 (WhoScored) – helping Los Rojillos to a steady mid-table finish.
By comparison with Spurs’ current roster, he made more challenges than the likes of Davinson Sanchez and Davies last campaign – all whilst intercepting more passes than any Lilywhites player other than fellow promising youngster Japhet Tanganga.
Indeed, now that Villarreal have won the race for his signature, as revealed first by Romano, Levy may have missed out on a potential would-be Spurs bargain for the left-back role.
As reported by the Daily Mail, Tottenham are on the hunt for a left-sided full-back and have displayed an interest in Man United target Sergio Reguilon – but it’s unclear whether the club would be willing to pay the Spaniard’s £25 million asking price.
Now that Estupinan is off the table, it appears they may have to cast a wider net in search of bargain additions.
