Tottenham Hotspur: Spurs handed boost after West Brom confirm Nathan Ferguson will leave

West Brom have confirmed Nathan Ferguson will leave the Championship leaders this summer, amid interest from Tottenham Hotspur.
Ferguson, who is out of contract at the end of the month, has worked his way into Slaven Bilic’s side this season. However, sporting director Luke Dowling revealed the teenager will be leaving when his contract expires via the club’s official website.
He said “we have made what can only be considered a very attractive offer to Nathan but he intends to pursue his career elsewhere. It’s a disappointment for everyone here but it is the player’s prerogative.”
The 19-year-old, who turns 20 in October, can play as a left-back or right-back, even though he started the season as a centre-half.
Crystal Palace came close to signing Ferguson in January until a knee injury collapsed the £11m deal.
Although Palace are still the front-runners to sign the defender in the summer, Tottenham are now in the frame as well. If the Eagles slip up again, Spurs will be in a prime position to take advantage of the situation.

As Champions League finalists last year, a move to north London is almost certainly more attractive.
Even though Daniel Levy has had to borrow a huge sum of money from the Bank of England, Spurs will still be able to outbid Palace in any event.
Football Insider reports Ferguson and West Brom have a strained relationship which may work in Levy’s favour. Indeed, the chairman hopped on a plane to Croatia to convince Luka Modric to move to White Hart Lane (via The Independent).
The Lilywhites arguably haven’t filled the right-back position properly ever since Kyle Walker left for Manchester City.
Although the Albion academy graduate hasn’t reached the same level as his compatriot so far, he is widely admired after his performances for the Baggies this season.
As he will only cost £4m in compensation, Ferguson is surely a risk worth taking in a volatile market.
