According to a report by Sport, as translated by Sport Witness, an update has emerged on the future of Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Tanguy Ndombele.

The Lowdown: Ndombele unsettled...

The Spurs club record signing has endured a tough time since his move from Lyon in the summer of 2019 and has never quite showcased his very best on a consistent enough basis.

Ndombele has displayed glimpses of his raw talent at N17, most notably under Jose Mourinho last season when he was even described as 'unplayable' at points, but his application has always been the bone of contention.

The Frenchman has also been at the centre of reports linking him with a move away from the club and it is reliably believed he informed club chiefs of his desire to leave Tottenham in the summer.

As new manager Antonio Conte takes to the N17 helm, one of his first major tasks could be deciding on Ndombele's future and whether he does still have a place at Tottenham.

As per a fresh report from Spain, it appears the 24-year-old could be headed closer to the exit door.

The Latest: Ndombele 'approaches' Barcelona...

According to Sport, as also translated by Sport Witness, Ndombele 'approaches Barcelona for January'.

It is claimed that the player is 'not comfortable' at Tottenham and, as explained in the Sport report, Spurs would like 'like to transfer him' and recover some of the money spent to acquire his services over two years ago.

Despite Barca only being able to afford a loan until the end of the season, the Spanish source believes Ndombele could be 'within reach' of the Catalan giants.

This comes as Spurs enter 'negotiations' to sign AC Milan midfielder Franck Kessie who is seen as a 'similar' player to Ndombele.

The Verdict: Good move?

If Ndombele does end up leaving N17, with Kessie coming in as his potential replacement, it could be a good move by the club.

The France international's exit could pave away for players who actually want to be at Spurs and help new boss Conte usher in his exciting new era.

The midfielder, described as 'underrated' by Martin Keown, has bags of raw talent - as evident by the fact he averaged more completed dribbles per 90 than any Spurs player last season (WhoScored).

However, at the same time, Conte cannot afford potential bad influences in the Spurs dressing room and any sign of unrest should be addressed as soon as possible.

In Kessie, Tottenham could be in talks to sign an ideal replacement for Ndombele if he does leave - especially going by his brilliant 90.8% pass accuracy in midfield and the fact he has been called 'invaluable' by Milan boss Stefano Pioli.
