Tottenham Hotspur: Lilywhites source shares Joe Rodon exit development

Tottenham Hotspur: Lilywhites source shares Joe Rodon exit development -Tottenham Hotspur Transfer Rumours

As per a ‘Tottenham source’, speaking to Football Insider, a major development has emerged on defender Joe Rodon’s future in north London ahead of the January transfer window.

The Lowdown: Rodon eyeing move away?

The Wales international has cut a bit-part figure at Spurs this season despite impressing in spells over the 2020/2021 season.

Rodon, playing just 78 minutes in the Premier League so far (WhoScored), has mainly featured in the Europa Conference League as speculation mounts over a possible move away from the club in January.

Reliable reporter Alasdair Gold believes that the 24-year-old is getting ‘pretty frustrated’ over his lack of involvement at Tottenham, and unless Antonio Conte starts turning to him more, he’d be ‘open to a loan in January’ (YouTube via This is Futbol).

Now, in a development on the situation, Football Insider have shared a significant update.

The Latest: Rodon ‘willing’ to secure a permanent move…

As per Football Insider’s sources, the central defender is now ‘willing to secure a permanent move’ as well as a loan in an effort to reignite his career.

Should Spurs sell Rodon permanently?

Definitely, cut him loose

Rodon is believed to have ‘set this sights’ on leaving N17 mid-season and will be ‘100%’ seeking an exit in the upcoming winter window.

The player apparently feels ‘overlooked’ by new boss Conte and doesn’t anticipate getting more minutes any time soon, leading him to now consider a permanent exit in January.

The Verdict: Wasted?

When given the opportunity last season, it is arguable that Rodon more than held his own and he is a young player with ‘huge potential’ – as pointed out by Spurs legend Graham Roberts last year (Twitter).

He also shines on a regular basis for his national team, drawing acclaim from some of the country’s media, with Wales Online reporter Ian Mitchelmore branding him a ‘special player’ after a ‘flawless’ performance against Belgium earlier this year (Twitter).

Over his 12 Premier League appearances last season, Rodon also averaged a cool and composed pass accuracy of 88.1% – the second highest number out of Spurs’ entire squad and just behind mainstay Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg (WhoScored).

He even finished the 20/21 English top flight campaign with more interceptions per 90 on average (1.8) than any Spurs player – perhaps demonstrating he has the ability to emerge as a first team contender.

Conte could still turn to the player as an adept partner for Eric Dier with star summer signing Cristian Romero now out until after the new year, but given how much he’s been wasted recently, it may not be enough for him to make a U-turn on his future.
