According to an update courtesy of journalist David Ornstein, via Tifo Football Q&A, Spurs are eyeing the addition of a new right-back in the summer transfer window – news which could raise question marks surrounding Serge Aurier’s future in north London.
Indeed, as per this report, chairman Daniel Levy and the Tottenahm board are still looking to bring in new recruits despite having already signed Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Joe Hart.
Ornstein has now claimed that a new right-back is on the cards for manager Jose Mourinho, and the club could be working to find a significant addition without having to pay over the odds.
Who would you rather sign for Spurs?
Whoever Tottenham manage to land in that position, it spells potentially bad news for Aurier, who has attracted mixed reviews for his performances over the 2019/20 campaign despite making the joint-most Premier League tackles for Spurs on average (WhoScored).
The hunt for a fresh defensive signing could push Aurier out the door, with rumours recently indicating that Serie A giants AC Milan are keen to acquire the £22m-rated Ivorian (Evening Standard).
Despite putting in some ‘terrible‘ shifts for Spurs last season, pundit Joe Cole took note of his performance against West Ham during Spurs’ 3-2 win back in November – lauding the 27-year-old as “excellent” (BT Sport via The Boot Room).
If Levy does manage to make a right-back his third summer signing, it could spell the end for Aurier – but whether or not Tottenham officially take the plunge remains to be seen.
