According to journalist Sami Mokbel (via GiveMeSport), Tottenham could make a late move to sign Juventus midfielder Weston McKennie before the end of the January transfer window.

The Lowdown: Paratici admires McKennie

Transfer rumours have been numerous for Spurs as deadline day quickly approaches. However, despite the Lilywhites being linked with an abundance of players this month, Daniel Levy is yet to dip into the market.

Football.London understands that Fabio Paratici is a huge admirer of Juventus’ ‘unbelievable’ midfielder McKennie, who the 49-year-old signed for the Bianconeri whilst he was at the Turin club. Having amassed 28 caps for the United States by the age of 23, McKennie would not come cheap, with a current market valuation of £22.5m.

With Juve manager Massimiliano Allegri not keen on the idea of losing the player midway through the Serie A campaign, it would be difficult for Spurs to agree a deal with the club before the summer window. Nonetheless, Paratici is understood to have made contact with McKennie’s representatives about a potential move to north London.

The Latest: Journalist makes McKennie claim

Mokbel has claimed that, whilst the potential deal has not crossed yet his desk, he can see Tottenham being interested in the 23-year-old due to his previous links with Paratici.

Speaking to GiveMeSport, the journalist said: “It’s the Italian links, isn’t it? Can Paratici and Conte tap into that market? It certainly gives the club that added dimension in getting tucked into the Serie A talent, so I'm not surprised if they are interested in someone like McKennie but it’s not one that has necessarily come across my radar at the moment.”

The Verdict: A difficult signing to complete

With Allegri’s reluctance to let the American leave Turin during the January window, it would appear a difficult proposition for Spurs to agree a deal with Juventus for McKennie.

Given the short time remaining before transfer deadline day, the Serie A club may price Levy out of a deal, leaving Antonio Conte searching for an alternative elsewhere.

However, Paratici’s strong relationship with the player may have opened up the possibility of McKennie joining Spurs, whether it be in January or during the summer transfer window.
