# Newcastle United: Noel Whelan can see Arnaut Danjuma signing

**[BBC radio pundit](https://icdb.tv/stats/4247/Noel-Whelan) Noel Whelan has claimed that he could now see Arnaut Danjuma signing for Newcastle United after some transfer news emerged on the young winger.**

### The Lowdown: Highly sought after

As per [Calciomercato](https://www.calciomercato.com/news/villarreal-tre-club-di-premier-su-un-attaccante-96449), the St. James’ Park faithful are joined by both Everton and West Ham United in the race to sign Danjuma from Villarreal ahead of the summer transfer window.

According to [The Athletic](https://theathletic.com/3054326/2022/01/07/ornsteins-transfer-mailbag-citys-haaland-move-arsenal-and-vlahovic-cantwell-can-go/?source=emp_shared_article), Liverpool were also monitoring the winger, who has a €75m (£62.7m) release clause, in January.

It seems PIF will have to pull out all the stops if they want to win the race for the highly regarded attacker.

### The Latest: Whelan reacts

Speaking to [Football Insider](https://www.footballinsider247.com/newcastle-fans-told-to-start-dreaming-as-superb-63m-arnaut-danjuma-signing-tipped-for-completion-pundit/), Whelan has now given his reaction to the news on Danjuma, claiming that he would be a ‘great addition’ to the North East club:

*“That’d be a superb signing.*

*“If they can stay up then they’ll be looking for experienced players who have played at the highest level.*

*“When the new owners came in, their main aim will have been to stay in the Premier League so they can attract these top-class, Champions League-quality players.*

*“I think right now the owners will be over the moon with the progress they’ve made towards that goal, and the way the new signings have hit the ground running.*

*“Right now they can start dreaming and planning about potential moves for the summer knowing that safety could be just three or four wins away.*

*“Danjuma would be a great addition if he is part of those plans – I can see it happening as he’s played under Howe before.”*

### The Verdict: No-brainer

Bringing in a player of Danjuma’s quality in the summer is surely a no-brainer for the Tyneside outfit.

The Netherlands international has scored an impressive 12 goals and made a further four assists while playing in both La Liga and the UEFA Champions League so far this season ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/arnaut-danjuma/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/355861/plus/0?saison=2021&verein=&liga=&wettbewerb=&pos=&trainer_id=)), proving that he can perform at a high level.

Of course, he is a player that Eddie Howe has worked with before as well, as Danjuma played under him at [AFC Bournemouth](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/arnaut-danjuma/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/355861/plus/0?saison=&verein=&liga=&wettbewerb=&pos=&trainer_id=10976), and so the manager would back himself to get the best out of the 25-year-old.

Nonetheless, him and Allan Saint-Maximin would certainly get the Toon Army off of their seats, adding to an already improving Magpies attack.
