# Sunderland: Fans buzz over Danny Batth transfer news

**Many Sunderland fans have been left buzzing over some transfer news that has emerged on Danny Batth.**

As per the official [website](https://safc.com/news/team-news/2022/january/danny-batth-signs-for-sunderland) of the Stadium of Light faithful, the central defender has now signed an 18-month deal on Wearside, joining on a free transfer from Stoke City.

He has plenty of experience of playing in League One before with [three](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/danny-batth/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/129049/plus/0?saison=&verein=&liga=&wettbewerb=GB3&pos=&trainer_id=) previous clubs, and has racked up [260](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/danny-batth/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/129049/plus/0?saison=&verein=&liga=&wettbewerb=GB2&pos=&trainer_id=) games in the Championship with the likes of Wolves and Middlesbrough as well as the Potters.

Nonetheless, Batth will now give Lee Johnson another good option at centre-back, and at 31 years of age, can mentor the likes of 18-year-old Callum Doyle as they look to seal automatic promotion out of League One and back up to England’s second division.
