# Manchester United: Fans buzz over Phil Jones transfer news

**Many Manchester United fans have been left buzzing over some transfer news on Phil Jones.**

As per [The Daily Mail](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-10332443/Manchester-United-exile-Phil-Jones-rescued-Benfica-January.html), the central defender is a potential loan target for Benfica in the [January transfer window](https://www.givemesport.com/1754870-january-transfer-window-2022-when-does-it-open-when-does-it-close-and-which-players-are-going-to-move).

The Portuguese outfit are looking to bring in a versatile defender, and given that Jones can play in a [number](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/phil-jones/profil/spieler/117996) of different positions, he certainly fits the bill.

The 29-year-old has [not](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/phil-jones/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/117996/plus/0?saison=2021&verein=985&liga=&wettbewerb=&pos=&trainer_id=) played at all for the senior team so far this season, and in truth the Old Trafford faithful already have [sufficient](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/manchester-united/startseite/verein/985) cover at centre-back, despite [injuries](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/manchester-united/startseite/verein/985) to both Raphael Varane and Victor Lindelof at the moment.

Nonetheless, the club could get at least get some of his [£110,000-per-week](https://salarysport.com/football/player/phil-jones/) wages off of their books, and potentially look to reinvest that money in the window next month.
