Countless Nottingham Forest fans have taken to Twitter to show their bemusement at the sale of Ben Brereton to Championship rivals Blackburn Rovers.
The 19-year-old is expected to join the Rovers on loan initially, before a £6m deal in January, and some fans can’t quite believe what has happened.
Despite not featuring so far for Nottingham Forest this season, manager Aitor Karanka has said that the promising teenager is part of his plans . However, this clearly does not seem to be the case.
Brereton (valued at £4.5m on Transfermarkt.co.uk) was a member of the victorious England side that won the European under-19 Championship, top scoring in that tournament. He has received interest from Premier League clubs in the past and has been tipped for great things, which is why fans find it strange that The Reds would opt to sell a player with such a promising future.
Here’s what the fans have to say:
such a bad move after such good business in the summer. what AK and the board are thinking is beyond belief. Such a good talent… absolute shambles forest #nffc

Yes, he is also only a kid and been playing in a poor side with little creativity. Very poor decision by forest

This is a really really bad move from @NFFC, not impressed with Karanka on this at all

Not entirely sure we should be getting rid at this stage, bit of a gamble but up till now he hasn’t started to live up to potential obviously alot of time for that to change but I don’t think we are in a position to wait. The add ons must be pretty hefty for such a small fee.

Stupid deal. And then I bet Karanka signs an over priced non scoring donkey like Gestede to replace him. It’s all going to end in tears.. #nffc
