Bid lodged as Sheffield Wednesday see talent’s future come under spotlight

Our Sheffield Wednesday fans here in the Transfer Tavern are certainly hoping that their side is going to win tonight with their season not getting off to the best of starts.

The Owls have only one point from their opening two games this season and that is certainly the start that they did not want coming into this campaign.

For sure, then, the onus is on them to try and get a win out of their game with Sunderland tonight but whilst we wait to see how they do, it seems as though there is plenty of speculation over young George Hirst’s future.

The talented young striker is expected to make it to the top and, naturally, our local Owls punters are hoping that he is going to achieve that feat with their club.

However, the men from Hillsborough are going to have a real fight on their hands to keep him by the looks of things with the Daily Mail reporting that Leicester have weighed in with a £2 million bid for the player.

Certainly, that is some serious money for a young player and so it remains to be seen if the Owls accept or reject the bid.

Landlord’s Verdict

It’s only a matter of time before Hirst is playing for a Premier League club – whether that be through promotion with Wednesday or moving this summer to the likes of Leicester.

Certainly, he has the ability and potential to get to the very top and he’ll have to think about whether the best route is to stay put or move on from the Owls.
