Leeds United fans in the Transfer Tavern will be expecting the club to be active in the transfer market this summer, however, their new manager has suggested there could be more departures than arrivals.
Marcelo Bielsa was appointed last week to succeed from Paul Heckingbottom and will be tasked with the job of trying to get the Whites back into the Premier League, a feat that has not proved easy for a number of years.
It was expected that the former Argentina and Chile manager would look at making a number of changes, however, it appears that he could be happy with the majority of his squad and will only want to bring a couple of new faces in, although there could be a huge exodus of players as well.
“For the moment we are not intending to bring too many new faces in,” he told the Yorkshire Evening Post.
“From my point of view the club have plenty of players on the books who I believe we should keep. The club generally have 15 players more than we need and we still have four or five different positions we need to strengthen.
“Moving forward, the squad to my mind should not be too numerous and have too many players who are not getting game time. There might be some departures so the squad is not too high in numbers.”
The Leeds fans in the Tavern should be expecting to see Bielsa try and have a mass exodus this summer as he looks to reduce his squad size, however, there will also be concern amongst a number of the residents that he feels he is still four or five players short.
It could be one busy transfer window this summer at Elland Road and the locals will be hoping the new manager can get things sorted in enough time.
