It’s set to be a busy summer down at St James’ Park for Newcastle United manager Rafa Benitez, who needs to carefully build his squad for a huge Premier League campaign next time out.
The Magpies stormed back to the top-flight thanks to a comprehensive Championship campaign last season, a year which was defined by strong showings from the likes of Jamaal Lascelles and Dwight Gayle.
But as in any side, when certain players are playing so well, there’s never room for certain individuals and one man that found himself on the fringes of the Newcastle squad last season was defender Grant Hanley.
The former Newcastle man made just 13 appearances for the Magpies last season and for a man that was at the top of his game for Blackburn just a couple of years ago, it marks a remarkable downturn in his professional career.
And according to the Shields Gazette, Hanley is being lined up by Harry Redknapp down at Birmingham City. The former Pompey manager has taken the reigns at St Andrews after impressing on an interim basis towards the end of last season and he appears to have earmarked Hanley as a potential signing over the coming weeks.
But with Newcastle keen to recoup as much of the £5.5million they paid for Hanley this time last summer, any transfer could hinge on the money that the Blues can offer.
Birmingham fans- would this be a decent addition to the squad? Leave your thoughts down below!
