Regardless of whether Leeds United are playing in the Premier League or Championship next season, you can guarantee changes to personnel will be made. A number of areas will likely need to be addressed in the summer and Marcelo Bielsa is not shy on making the decisions he sees necessary.
When the Argentine originally arrived at Elland Road, he made it clear who would be a part of his plans and who would be deemed surplus to requirements, with a number of those men then heading out on loan spells away. Now, it would appear that one of those players will not be making a return to Yorkshire.
What’s the News?
According to a report by Aksam, Caleb Ekuban is expected to have his loan spell with Trabzonspor turned into a permanent deal at the end of the current campaign.
It is understood that the Turkish outfit have been impressed with the 24-year-old’s performances of late and will take up the option to pay the €1million (£867,000) clause in the arrangement between the two sides.
Although injuries blighted his chances of succeeding at Elland Road, Ekuban never really managed to get going when he was handed his opportunity following his £504,000 move from Hellas Chievo when Thomas Christiansen was in charge.
Despite scoring on his debut, he added just one more to his tally in the 21 appearances he made for Leeds during the sole season he was at the club before Bielsa made it rather clear he had no plans for him this year after omitting him from the squad list.
Looking at where he is now, Ekuban is clearly in a better place and appears to be enjoying his football once again as he has come up with a number of important goals for Trabzonspor, which have led to him being called up to the Ghana National Team for the first time in his career.
Leeds are unlikely to miss the 24-year-old at Elland Road as they have been able to upgrade the position and have plenty of better options available to them now, whilst the €1m (£867,000) might be welcomed by the club as it will mean they will have some extra funds to try and finance a move for one of their potential targets in the summer.
