Leeds United fans would surely be lying if they were not concerned with what the future will bring as the club look to win promotion to the Premier League. The Whites’ hopes of achieving automatic promotion took a dent prior to the international break and the play-offs can be an extremely nervy affair for those involved within the process.
Marcelo Bielsa’s future is also something that will make those at Elland Road rather anxious as questions will likely be asked if the club were unable to achieve promotion, however, it would appear some already have an ideal replacement in mind, should the Argentine depart.
What’s the News?
According to a report by the Yorkshire Evening Post, Carlos Corberan is liked by some at Leeds as a potential successor.
It is claimed that a decision would be made depending on the timing of any situation that may occur, whilst his own development as a coach would also be taken into consideration.
There would be many worse options than Corberan to choose from should Leeds have to look for a new manager in the near future. The Spaniard already knows the club very well and has been working extremely closely with Bielsa this season, with the pair having been pretty successful.
Corberan’s success also stems from the Under-23s, with whom he recently managed to guide to the Professional Development League North title this season and has developed some of his younger talents into players that have been able to earn their first-team opportunities.
The former Villarreal assistant manager has been working with the current first-team coaching staff on a regular basis as well, having been in the dugout more often than not throughout the campaign, showing how highly Bielsa rates him as the Argentine is rather particular when it comes to the people he wants within his inner circle.
Although many at the club will not want to think about Bielsa leaving any time soon, replacing him with Corberan would make perfect sense and the ideal man to continue what the Argentine has managed to bring with him to Elland Road during his first season in the Championship.
Leeds fans, do you think Corberan could replace Bielsa effectively when the time comes? Or do you think the club should target someone else? Join in with the discussion below by sharing your thoughts with us.
