Charlton Athletic managed to secure a valuable point against Sunderland on Saturday, which has helped them close the gap on the Black Cats.
The Addicks currently find themselves four points off Sunderland and five points off Luton Town, so an automatic promotion place is still a possibility but it looks unlikely at this point. Indeed, it appears as if Lee Bowyer is looking to boost their promotion chances by moving for a Championship player, as according to the London News Online, Charlton Athletic are eyeing a move for Chris Maxwell.
Interestingly, Charlton Athletic are interested in taking Preston North End goalkeeper Chris Maxwell on loan.
Unfortunately, the London club lost Jed Steer recently as he returned to Aston Villa, so it appears as if Maxwell is the favourite to succeed him at the Valley.
He has fallen out of favour at North End and not started a match for the Championship outfit since the start of November, so a loan move will help him reignite his career.
Chris Maxwell could definitely provide solid competition for Dillon Phillips in-between the sticks, with regular minutes in the offing if he manages to impress.
This is the kind of signing that will really help Charlton’s promotion push in the long run, as an injury could occur to Phillips or he could drop in form.
