From Portugal: Sheffield Wednesday target 13-goal attacker in surprising deal

Sheffield Wednesday fans in the Transfer Tavern will be looking for their side to improve on last season’s disappointing campaign and will want to bring a handful of additions to the team.

The Owls brought Jos Luhukay in to replace Carlos Carvalhal over the festive period and he helped to keep the side in the Championship following the disastrous start.

Luhukay will be looking to make his mark on the club this summer through new signings and, according to reports in Portugal, he could be set to bring a prolific attacker to Hillsborough.

Record are claiming that the Owls have identified Joao Amaral as a possible target following his exploits in the Primera Liga for Vitoria Setubal, although Wednesday’s interest is rather surprising considering he only recently signed for Benfica.

Landlord’s Verdict

The fact that Amaral managed to contribute 13 goals in all-competitions last season by scoring 9 and assisting 4 suggests he would be a valuable addition for the Owls this summer. The 26-year-old can play on the wing or as a striker and he would fill a gap that Sheffield Wednesday have in their current squad.

The locals will hope he can replicate his form from Portugal in the Championship, however, a number of the residents in the bar are sceptical about his ability to find the back of the net in English football.
