‘Honestly wouldn’t care if he left’ – Leeds fans fume at lynchpin’s comments

The Leeds fans in the Transfer Tavern are discussing the future of their star centre-back and World Cup-bound Swede, Pontus Jansson. The 27-year-old defender has been one of the Championship’s best defenders of the last two seasons and a couple of good showings in Russia could see a Premier League club take a punt on him, especially after reading his comments in Aftonbladet.

This summer could be a make or break time for Leeds United. The fans are hopeful that Andrea Radrizzani can come to an agreement with Marcelo Bielsa to replace Paul Heckingbottom, who was sacked last Friday, whilst a number of transfer targets have been touted to improve the squad, with Jerry Mbakogu and Kyle Bartley both named as Leeds bound more than once over the last few weeks.

If the Yorkshire club are to rise up from the ashes and gain Premier League promotion next season they’ll need to not only do good business in the window, they’ll need to hold on to some of the top performers they’ve already got. The club made the move to tie Pablo Hernandez to a two-year deal last month and now the club’s hierarchy will be turning their attention to Pontus Jansson, although it’s unclear whether they’ll be seeing the 27-year-old at Elland Road again after his comments.
