Man City are reportedly ready to let defender leave, Newcastle are said to be keen

It’s been a cracking season for Newcastle United down in the Championship and the whole of the Toon contingent here in the Tavern were delighted to see Rafa Benitez’s side return to the top-flight at the first attempt.

Unlike the likes of Aston Villa, the Toon did exactly what was required of them last season and despite not steamrolling the division as some might have hoped, they brought home the title and will play in the top tier once again next season.

But the Newcastle fans lining the bar here in the pub are under no illusion- they know Rafa will have to add heartily to the squad this summer and there’s one report suggesting a seriously renowned defender might be on his way.

The man in question? Former Manchester City centre-back Eliaquim Mangala.

According to the Manchester Evening News, Pep Guardiola is happy for the Valencia loanee to leave the club this summer as he doesn’t regard him as apart of his future plans at the Etihad.

It’s unlikely the Citizens will recoup much of the £42million they paid for him back in 2014 though.

Newcastle fans- is this the sort of quality addition that will see you remain in the Premier League next season? Leave your thoughts down below!
