Charlton Athletic could have a battle on their hands to keep one of their talented players at The Valley beyond the end of the season.
According to a report by The Independent, Joe Aribo is thought to have attracted interest from abroad, with clubs in the Bundesliga thought to have been closely linked, although a move to Portugal could also be on the cards.
The 22-year-old has been impressive for Lee Bowyer’s side this season and has been one of their influential figures in helping the Addicks remain within promotion contention.
However, with his current contract set to expire at the end of the campaign, he will be able to talk to foreign clubs about a potential move, with the likes of Eintracht Frankfurt and Benfica thought to be at the front of the queue for his signature.
Charlton are desperate to keep hold of Aribo for as long as possible, having initially offered him a new long-term deal last summer, however, it had to be withdrawn and changed as a result of Roland Duchatelet’s cost-cutting measures.
Aribo has been a standout for Charlton this season and it will be devastating for the club to see another young player of his talent leave The Valley.
The 22-year-old appears to have become another victim of the ludicrous times that the south London outfit are going through under Duchatelet and it would seem things will get worse before they can get better.
With a move to the Bundesliga, or the Primeira Liga, possible, and having seen what other young English players have been able to achieve abroad, potentially playing Championship football next season might not be enough to convince Aribo to stay at Charlton.
