Sheffield Wednesday failed to match up against Chelsea’s stars at Stamford Bridge yesterday, as they were beaten 3-0 by Maurizio Sarri’s side.
The Owls will be desperate to build on their last Championship victory against Wigan Athletic, with Paul Lambert’s struggling Ipswich Town side next up on Saturday.
Interestingly, it appears as if one of Steve Bruce’s first-team members will be staying at Hillsborough this month, as according to Voetbal International (via Sport Witness), Joost van Aken’s agent has stated that his client will be staying at Sheffield Wednesday.
Indeed, the agent of Joost van Aken has told the Dutch media his client will be staying with the Championship club following the appointment of Steve Bruce.
“The new trainer wanted to view the situation in recent weeks and now he’s decided that he would like to keep Joost.”
The defender has reportedly attracted interest, but it now looks as if he’s set to stay in Sheffield.
Joost van Aken, who is valued at £2.25 million (by Transfermarkt), will be hoping that he can have a positive impact on proceedings in the second half of the season, with a clean slate under Steve Bruce.
The Owls have struggled defensively at times this season, so they’ll be hoping that the Dutchman can help solve that problem by ensuring consistency from here on in.
