Sheffield Wednesday have been impressing a number of onlookers with their performances in the Championship this season.
The Owls currently sit in the playoff spots after a fine run of form under Jos Luhukay and will be looking to continue that when they meet Middlesbrough on Friday night at Hillsborough.
A number of their players have put in some solid performances over the duration of the campaign so far, however, one of the club’s youngsters has been standing out with his displays.
Matt Penney has come through the ranks at Hillsborough and only made his first-team debut at the beginning of the season, but has cemented his place in Luhukay’s side.
The 20-year-old’s current contract expires in the summer, however, the manager has revealed that talks are ongoing about the player being offered a new deal.
“The meetings and the conversations are there so we make no pressure,” he told the Sheffield Star.
“So I’m positive that the club and Matt make in the next few weeks a decision.
“I hope that Matt sees his future here with Sheffield Wednesday. We give him in the last two months really good chances to come to us, to make positive progression and he’s not only in the team he’s a first 11 player now, so what more do you want as a young player?”
Penney has certainly grabbed the opportunity offered to him by Luhukay with both hands and shone in the early stages of his career.
The Owls will be keen to ensure they do not lose him in the summer and will need to look to tie him down before other clubs start to take an interest in the 20-year-old.
Sheffield Wednesday will take on Middlesbrough on Friday night and Penney could be a positive boost for Luhukay’s side, as the club have not lost a game that he has started in yet.
