Lee Bowyer confirms Charlton interest in Paul Smyth - Latest News

Charlton Athletic are flying high near the top of the League One table after an impressive campaign.

Lee Bowyer’s side sit within touching distance of an automatic promotion spot, although they have played more games than anyone around them.

Karlan Grant has been in fine form for The Addicks this season, however, with speculation continuing to mount that he may be on the move, it appears that The Valley outfit are casting their eyes over a few options.

And, according to a report by The South London Press, Bowyer has confirmed a 21-year-old is on his list of potential targets.

Queens Park Rangers striker Paul Smyth is on his radar and could look to use his final loan spot to bring the player across the capital, although other names are also being considered.

“He is somebody that we’re interested in, along with a few others,” he said.

“We are looking at a few to be honest but yes, his name is amongst the list.

“Nothing is likely before the weekend. I’ve said before I don’t want to dive in. I don’t want to just bring someone in, it has to be the right person. We’re doing our homework on players and speaking to coaches. Steve [Gallen, head of recruitment] is obviously speaking to people.

“We have to bring the right person in, they’ve got to fit with the lads we have already got.”

The Verdict:

Smyth could be a great short-term option for Charlton to consider this winter as they look to continue their push for Championship football.

With Lyle Taylor set to serve a three-game ban and the future of Grant uncertain at the moment, The Addicks are right to be looking at another striker.

The 21-year-old has not been able to get regular playing time at QPR and could benefit himself from dropping down to League One.
