Although their promotion hopes are still far from over with the play-offs yet to be played, you can not help but feel there is a sense of disappointment at Leeds United about how the season has petered out.
Those poor performances towards the end of the current Championship campaign highlighted a number of issues that Marcelo Bielsa still has with his squad and, regardless of what division they are playing their football in next year, the Whites are going to have to strengthen their team significantly.
And, it appears they have one man who could provide them with some ideal depth in certain areas of the field for the club.
What’s the News?
However, it is also reported that the 21-year-old is happy with the Bundesliga outfit and that Norwich City are also prepared to battle the Elland Road side for his signature.
Rexhbecaj would be a perfect addition for Leeds this summer as he can potentially help bolster the side in key areas of the pitch.
The 21-year-old is technically astute and is a strong tackler of the ball and has shown plenty of promise in his breakthrough season with Wolfsburg, having made 22 appearances, scoring one goal and providing one assist in the process.
Naturally a central midfielder, the Kosovan can also play comfortably as a left-back, which is a position that needs a serious look at in the offseason as Bielsa’s side have had issues with injuries in that area of the squad.
However, it would seem that Leeds may have a couple of stumbling blocks that they will need to overcome to have any chance of bringing Rexhbecaj to Elland Road this summer.
Firstly, with the rumoured interest from Norwich, the Whites will likely have to be playing in the Premier League next season to be able to compete with the Canaries, whilst Daniel Farke has a number of ex-Bundesliga players in his squad.
Also, it would currently appear that the youngster has no interest in leaving the German side at the moment and that could make things even more difficult for Bielsa to convince him to join him at Leeds.
